Hi,
I've long since stoped using Ubuntu on that server it's now running
suse. So I cannot test (nor take the risk testing) to see if ubuntu 8.10
fixed the problem or not ;>

Hi,
I'm apparently impacted this bug as well:
uname:
Linux mail 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# hdparm -tT /dev/sdd
/dev/sdd:
Timing cached reads: 534 MB in 2.00 seconds = 266.84 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 306 MB in 3.01 s
yes. I had a worse problem with Centos 4.4 copy speed < 1 mps. I'm
downloading OpenSuse 10.3 and Centos 5.1 now. Also, I've heard of two
possible avenues to explore:
1) add the boot time option of ide_combined=libata
note: this did not help me
2) edit /etc/initramfs-tools files to include your mod
um forget that second option it's not the root of my problem at least --
libata is already preffered on my system and it's modules are what is
linked against per lsmod ;>

Hi All,
I'm not a Ubuntu user however I've noticed the same problem in FC and Suse. The
core suspect is the gtk-qt-engine package. If it's removed (or if you disable
it's use in the KDE control Panel) your OpenOffice icons will reappear.
I suggest you move this bug upstream to the package owne
