Dustin I love the work that you've put in to this but I need to stand by Ace
Suares and for a LTS version it should be fixed.
It prevents me to use ubuntu for my servers which uses software raid. The ones
with hardware raid could use ubuntu.

After googling a bit.
There are a lot of bus errors with perl scripts.
So my guess right now that this is a perl language error.

I can reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with yelp
3.4.1-0ubuntu1.The test machine has a quad-core 3.2 GHz AMD Phenom II
and when the bug occurs one of the cores constantly runs at 100% until
closing yelp (tested for 10+ minutes).

I'm affected by this in LibreOffice 3.4.3 (OOO340m1 Build:302) on
Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. As mentioned above, the behaviour is
inconsistent.
I was working in Writer when this started to occur. Then I tried the
following steps:
(1) Close all Writer windows.
(2) Open a new blank document in Writer.

Ubiquity hangs at Keyboard
I tried tracker after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10:
ii tracker 0.10.24-1build2 metadata database, indexer and search tool
It does not work at all (can't find any search term).
Installed recoll and it works great. I'd recommend it to everyone. And
yes, it can search for phrases in enclosed quotes.

Renzo, I'm surprised with your report as in Natty the bug was fixed for me and
I didn't have to use the nomodeset option.
In Natty I have the following packages:
$ dpkg -l | grep -i xserver-xorg-video-ati
ii xserver-xorg-video-ati1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4.1
X.Org
Norbert, I can also reproduce this bug in Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS.
