I have a Sylvania Gnetbook with a VIA C7-M CPU and can confirm it's the
via-rng module, however once loaded, further unloading the module does
not make the problem go away.
As per the changelog, libgcrypt added something dealing with RNGs
between versions 1.4.1 and 1.4.2rc1:

The crash is very sporadic (once every 2 or 3 days) and seemly random.
Upgraded to 2.0rc two nights ago and so far so good.

Unable to determine if the problem was distribution, library or
application based, but upgrading to feisty and upgrading cinepaint to
feisty's current version (10.21-2-0ubuntu1) seems to have solved the
problem.
