though, if you want to turn off notifications you can run this command

Sounds like you don't have friends-app installed. The -app package
provides the actual application that you would run and interact with
(friends itself is just a backend that runs invisibly in the
background). Try this command:
sudo apt-get install friends-app

If the answer to those questions is 'no', then I would not at all be
surprised that the "top" and "refresh" buttons are doing nothing (you
are already looking at the "top" and there's no source to get
apt-get update? I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to install it.

The error message here indicates a that a timeout was reached. Has this
happened to you since? Seems like it might be a one-off error with your
internet connection or perhaps even a temporary server issue with
Facebook. I haven't been able to reproduce this so I'm not sure how to
fix it.

The stack trace as reported has a one-line fix. The only reason I
haven't done it yet is because I haven't had a chance to upgrade to

Ok, so I had a chance to play with this today -- all Ubuntu Touch core
apps are doing this, not just friends. This means that it's unlikely any
code in friends-app is responsible for this behavior.

So, one of Canonical's over-reaching goals is "convergence". This means
that we are going to write one app that runs on the phone, and on the
desktop, and on the TV, (and maybe even on servers if that makes sense,
but probably not for friends), and there is going to be a consistent,
unified experie
(you can also navigate with arrow keys if you are not satisfied with the
way mouse scrolling currently behaves with whatever pointing device you
may be using)

@cehcoimg, are you sure that it was this crash? I really don't see how
that could be possible (friends-dispatcher explicitly no longer raises
this exception any longer). Can you check the traceback and perhaps file
a new bug?

So, we currently support Flickr and it looks like Instagram will be
landing early during the S cycle. These two protocols are both primarily
image-sharing sites, and friends-app handles this a little bit goofily,
displaying the image caption but requiring a click in order to e
raising this exception is actually running inside the MainThread, not
from inside subthreads where exceptions like this are safely caught and
logged.
