@Rainer,
Actually, having a workaround by definition lessens the severity, as if
someone wants to still run Skype, they can. With that said, I
understand your frustration...and have a solution ;-):
1) Place the attached "skype-workaround" file in /usr/local/bin:
$ sudo cp skype-workaround
In terms of outlook on a fix, because both skype and nvidia produce
closed-source binaries for Ubuntu, Ubuntu developers have little options
besides reporting the issue upstream and waiting for a fix.

this one. Is this bug fixed or just fixed in a specific release? If
it's the latter, which one? Basically, I want to know if we can close
this bug and the NUMEROUS other dups :)

@ Jean-Baptiste Lallement Correct, ubiquity is not in universe, but
virtual box IS...and while I would like this to work, it's not an
officially supported environment, and thus not something I see as
important enough to break freezes for in Natty. So with that said, I'm
unassigning the Canonica
targeting this to Oneiric, since we probably want it fixed there...and
it's too late (IMO) to try and fix for Natty.

I agree we should have this in Natty, but it's simply too late for such
a jump in versions. I've targeted this to Oneiric. Perhaps someone can
build a version for Natty and host in a PPA?

Targeting this to Natty-updates, as it won't make the release. Probably
a good idea to file it under Oneiric too...I don't have the right
authority in the aptdaemon project, to do so.
** Changed in: aptdaemon (Ubuntu Natty)
Milestone: None => natty-updates

Matthew, my use of caps was to illicit the very detailed and much
appreciated response you gave. ;) Apologies for doing so, but I felt
like this bug was floundering a bit.

Can we PLEASE get this fixed? Having the old branding implies the
information is old/out-dated, and documentation (while useful for
Desktop) is ***ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL FOR SERVER***. Who moved
wiki.ubuntu.com? Why can't we have the same folks do help.ubuntu.com?
I also don't understand the "help
@Victor: it only matters to whether or not we have a real "regression"
from 10.10, but overall...not really...the default is slower and needs
to be fixed.

Given this is a universe package and the current bug list already
assigned to the canonical-foundations team, I'm unassigning to allow
someone else the opportunity to address.

@John Lenton: What type of graphics card do you have? The output from
`lspci` should be good enough.

Thanks for the fast feedback. Next question, are you seeing the
"Ubuntu" splash screen or nothing at all, i.e. a blank screen?
