Actually crashing, no.
And I found out something else; it doesn't happen if Compiz is disabled.
(i.e.) The screensaver starts normally.

This doesn't seem to happen when glx is not enabled. (on my nvidia card).
The last time I tried it, it was with Compiz running.
However, apport launched only once, under conditions I'm not able to reproduce.
However, I can SEE that the screensaver doesn't start, even though apport
