Ah, okay, my bad.
I just tried to reproduce this issue with the cryptsetup package in
intrepid but failed to do so. The volume does come up pretty well.
Could you perhaps fetch the source from intrepid, compile the source on
your hardy package and retry? there has been a few changes to
cryptdisks

okay, I've uploaded a very similar patch to what Roman has proposed to
intrepid. I tested the packages in a kvm instance, obviously without
wpasupplicant.
My current guess what's going wrong here:
The udev rules gets activated too early in the boot sequence, most
probably with S10udev, where udev

Hm. in my tests with kvm the system came up as expected. Can you try to
boot without usplash and watch if there are more 'interesting' boot

I'm not really sure what viins-mode is (it does not appear in zshall(1)
after all) and googling for it gave be ~10 hits, among others this bug.
I therefore conclude that it is not a very common configuration.
Anyway, if you could propose a concerete patch to the zsh package, I'd

Courier uses the gdbm database library to write the userdb file, and
exim uses the db2 database library to read it (if you configure it to
read userdb).
This is very inconvenient as then exim cannot read
the attached patch at least builds in hardy.
