Unable to install timidity through Synaptic Package Manager

New flicker issue with Ubuntu 8.10 on laptop. No issue on previous
releases (Badger through Gibbon). Please let me know what I can post to
assist with identifying the cause and a solution.
Laptop is Acer 9500, 1400X900 screen resolution. Flicker occurs whenever
opening new programs and occasionall
running HH (8.04) and am unable to successfully import *.ics data.
Select import, open dialog opens and has 'less' as default program.
Lightning is not a selectable program, have tried thunderbird, but get
same results (nothing happens, Calendar is not populated with new data).

This is more than a visual bug. On my system, I am unable to remove CUPS
via the Synaptic Package Manager. This is (I think) because when I mark
cupsys for removal, it also includes gnome-desktop, which I cannot
unmark after that. Needless to say, I do not apply the removals. I am

OK, All is well again. Never saw any alsa/sound updates, but after going
through a few recent updates have tested all my sound/video packages and
all seems back to normal now. Sound control is workable, although it
seems to be a bit muted compared to before issue.

Sorry, additional info to add. this bug also causes my Firefox to lock
up if I go to any sites that play video. My guess is that all of this is
related somehow to the ALSA sound control, but that is just a guess.

I have an Acer 9500 series with the same issue. As I do NOT want to be
mucking around with the kernel. I would appreciate the fix being
integrated into the system. I am running Gutsy, (Ubuntu 7.10), Liinux
kernel 2.6.22-14. This has been consistent with me on the last two
versions (6.10, and 6.4).
Still unable to get my card reader to recognize memory cards. Running
Gutsy Gibbon, latest Linux version (as of last night's update). Attached
is my lspci output.

Not sure what changed in Evolution (by me or auto updates) or in GMail.
I went back to the GMail help on configuration and went through every
panel to insure I had Evolution configured correctly.

Getting same error in Evolution 2.28.1 under Ubuntu 9.10 fully updated
when attempting to send email via imap (gmail). When attempting to send
via pop (xanadoo) get same error message.
