I'm getting the same problem. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Ubuntu Feisty
Fawn. However, Firefox does not have any issues from Windows. But quite
interestingly, since I have recently moved to a new office, with a
similar machine and OS, Firefox does not seem to have the problem.

this might be a stupid question , but : Have you checked that the small Wifi
switch on the side (or is it at the back for the Thinkpad) is not turned off by
mistake ?
The dmesg clearly says "disabled by HW" and it seems to me that, the toggling
of the switch has triggered it.
