My driver is i845
Nope, no compiz here.
All video files (the ones I've used are ogv, avi and mpeg ones).
and the problem arises only when the visualisation is disabled. Works
fine if visualisation is enabled.

no... video plays flawlessly I tried that too... like I said, it happens
only after I play an audio and in totem when the visualisation is
disabled.
I said this too:
Restarting totem with a video will play the video flawlessly. But if any audio
is played before the video, the problem reappears.
