I DUNNO ITS BEEN DOING THIS FOR PERHAPS WEEKS NOW WHEN I UPDATE. SOMETHING
BORKS. Says:
"Package operation failed" "The installation or removal of a software
package failed."
ALSO, IT ALWAYS SHOWS AN UPDATE WITH "WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR" BUT THE
BOX IS NEVER CHECKED.
GEEEZ, THAT LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF INFORMATION THAT IS COLLECTED. IS THIS
A POSSIBLE SECURITY ISSUE FOR PEOPLE WHO REPORT THESE THINGS.
MY SHOE SIZE IS A 14... SEEMS LIKE THAT WAS THE ONLY THING LEFT OUT.

Running a Fresh Install of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and looking at
/var/log/Xorg.0.log:
(II) Initializing built-in extension XEVIE

It is an Acer problem. Here is a fix that worked for me.
Reboot and hold F2. You'll be in BIOS.
Under Main, go to Touchpad.
It will be on Advanced. You should change it to Basic.
Save changes and exit.
Your touchpad should work.
