I can't induce this repeatably yet, but compiz has crashed on me 3
times, each time when I started typing a new line in a Gmail message.

This is XGL on Edgy with an nvidia card (though an error with the same
outward appearance occurred on the same hardware on Dapper). I'll check
where the compiz package came from and post that shortly.

Also crashes for me, but works when I right-click on the orange
notification icon and select "Install all updates." It has crashed twice
and then worked with the right-click both times.

I'm pretty sure that this is actually not a bug, but a "feature" in
which XGL restarts when I hit shift-backspace accidentally, as detailed
here (among lots of other places):
