- Make sure the clock applet is as right to the screen as possible.
- Add a location which is one day forward from your "home" location. The text
of the time will be longer because of the additional week day.
- Open the clock menu and over the mouse over the location. The "S

The clock applet in Karmic no longer shows an icon if a location is set
with no city (just a time zone, like described in previous comment). I
guess that in Intrepid, the icon is displayed at coordinates 0.00, 0.00.
