Our NFS server is not a Ubuntu system. It’s basically an LFS based set- up [1]. The autofs client installed on our system has no trouble connecting to the server, so some minor detail seems to be different, that it doesn’t work with the Ubuntu client out of the box. [1]: https://github.molgen.mpg.
