I've got the exact same problem on a Clevo D900K laptop, with fresh install of
i386 Ubuntu Feisty from shipit CD.
When asking GDM to hibernate, the screen blinks twice, and after three seconds
the GDM locked screen appears. When i enter my password, gnome is still running
fine. /var/log/messages

Following the hint (from bug 68258) to run hibernate.sh directly, i also
get this bug. I just posted lspci -vv. /var/log/messages and dmesg to
bug 68258.

Looks like i was not using suspend2. (I will try this tonight, i'm
teaching a Samba training now with this laptop, so i prefer to not take

I found the cause, it's the nvidia driver. When i switch to nv,
hibernate works perfect!
My dilemma is that the nv driver does not support my two screens (both
1920x1200), it uses only one.

The nvidia driver prevents me from hibernating, switching to nv solves the
problem.
(but the nv driver doesn't work well with the two 1920x1200 screens)
I also think this is related or similar to ubuntu bugs 94332 and 68258.

i can confirm this problem, get the same error. Switching nvidia to nv
solves the problem, but nv doesn't support my screens.
