My test results with MATE Terminal and two different SSH servers are
below:
* When I connect to 1st SSH server (openssh 7.6p1-4ubuntu0.3, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
amd64) from any Ubuntu MATE version (from 12.04 LTS to 21.04) I see even worse
situation - window title does not change on SSH-login and afte
So it really depends on OpenSSH server version.
I'm not sure how to correctly debug this issue, so I have added openssh
package to this bug-report to get some comments from them.

2. Launch LibreOffice Writer
3. Type `HEllo` or `:alien:`, press
Expected results:
* `HEllo` is transformed to `Hello` after pressing ; `:alien:` is
transformed to `👽` after pressing
Actual results:
