What kind of card do you have exactly?
I guess it's an old one which is not supported any more.
My estimation would be that you are affected by this bug:

BTW, I asked upstream [1] about this specific commit and what they say
is that it is safe to revert it since it just cleans up some public
structures making the Xorg.log cleaner.
The only side-effect they expect is a bit more log information in
Xorg.log which I believe is hardly any annoyance compa

Online on the specs I see that this laptop has only integrated Intel card.

If your X server loads but you get no menus, then open a new terminal
( Ctrl+Shift+T ), write there
compiz --replace
and post in the bug report what problem you get
