The headphone jack works if I turn on the computer with it plugged, but
won't work anymore if I unplug and plug it again, no matter if I logout,
restart X or anything.

I can also hear a very fast sound coming from the headphone when I just
plug it into the jack.

That also happens to me. I have a Gateway T-1625 laptop and there is no

"surround" slider in alsamixer here.

I have just tested this issue on the latest Intrepid Ibex. That menu still
does not work unless I activate it somewhere else.

I tried to send files to people on different networks, OS and clients by
clicking on their nicknames on the left side bar then clicking on "Send
files...", nothing happened. Right clicking the nickname in the chat the
"Send file..." menu works, and the side bar starts working until I close
the prog
I just tried to remove (purge) xchat and xchat-gnome, then I installed
xchat-gnome again, and somehow the menu worked. After installing xchat, the
sidebar menu didn't work anymore until I access it in another way. Uninstalling
xchat doesn't change it, even if I delete ~.xchat2 folder. Now, after
