A day or so after updating the BIOS performance returned to what it was
before or possibly even worse so I suspect it was just coincidence that
it seemed better.
Today I have been trying the trusty 3.15rc2 kernel and it seems much
more stable but will keep using it for a few days before casting

It does seem fairly consistently better with 3.15.0-031500rc2-generic
Have marked as confirmed as requested but I'm happy for nothing more to
happen and stick with this kernel which will presumably come through in
future updates anyway.

I'm seeing this on an Acer Aspire S7-392. WiFi does sometimes connect
but not for long and will drop out and ask for a password again.

Similar symptoms - wifi keeps disconnecting when at a distance from the
router (lower signal strength) but stays connected fine when close to
the router. In Windows the wifi stays connected
Things appear somewhat better (less frequent disconnects though still
occurring) though it seems unlikely to be as a result of the BIOS update
given that the description was "Fix system boot fail issue".
