The 3.2.5-1ubuntu0.1 package fixes the problem for me through three
reboots. I reported duplicate bug #776908 and was experiencing the
problem consistently.

Updating the initramfs did not help me either. I verified that the
initramfs mdadm.conf had the same contents as the root mdadm.conf, which
mounts successfully via the recovery shell.
