I think this is one of those bugs that might be difficult for an
ordinary user to reproduce. I'm hesitant to break a package
intentionally in my squeaky-clean Jaunty installation just to check
whether Synaptic shows the whole error message!

I had the same problem upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy with the graphical
installer. I can confirm that for me, the following appears to have
fixed libgphoto2-2 and all its dependencies:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/libgphoto2-2*

I don't know if this information is in the logs, but I happened to
plug the mp3 player into the sleep-n-charge USB port. I think it was
working (the mp3 player appeared to be charging).

For anyone stuck with 10.04 LTS: I can confirm that the above workaround
works for the latest skype, currently 4.3.0.37, taken from the "dynamic"
build.
