my XFCE session was acting strange (right-click on desktop didn't do
anything, etc.). I examined the ~/.xsession-errors file and found some
error messages that mentioned libgamin. I uninstalled fam and i

Ignore my comment about #63131 -- that was a red herring.
I do note that the scanner group was created already for me by the edgy
live install CD, but not the nvram group. Commenting out the nvram
entry in that file prevented the long timeout.
On a tangent: it looks like the "cycles" in timeout
I think the following may be a related symptom.
I notice that the error "/usr/sbin/nscd: option `--invalidate' requires
an argument" appears every time I run "/etc/init.d/nscd restart". I
took a look at the man page for nscd, but could not figure out what kind
of argument it was expecting after t

This sounds similar to what I've experienced.
To reproduce consistently:
- Load my keyboard theme (attached) by copying to .themes/mine/xfwm4/
and choosing the keyboard theme "mine".
- In .config/xfce4/mcs_settings/wmtweaks.xml, change
Xfwm/ToggleWorkspaces to 0.
- (Perhaps) restart XFCE

we are waiting for the unicode-2 branch to be merged into mainline
Emacs. I see reports of breakage concerning unicode-2 about once a week
on the Emacs development list due to it not being in mainline yet --

compilation options, so the answer is not to add them. The only way of
getting this Xft support is to switch to the unicode-2 branch, which is

I need to know which mode or buffer you were using when comint failed to
prompt for a password. From an examination of the source, comint-watch-
for-password-prompt is activated by default.

Actually, it is best just to use ispell-buffer, since that supports the
modern spell-variants much better. I'll check in a change that handles
the error you get when running spell-buffer a bit better.

Do you have the ispell package installed, or aspell instead?
Also, does ispell-buffer at all work before you run ispell-change-
dictionary?
If you can tell me what symbolic links you made to get it working, that
would be helpful.
