It's just that -- the system hard freezes when upgrading deskbar-applet.
My hardware is Fujitsu-Siemens AmiloPro V3505 laptop running
2.6.22-14-generic SMP kernel.

Hi!
There are various bug reports about Firefox freezing the system but I
was unable to find one that talks about hard freeze when STARTING
Firefox. And that's what happening for me -- it's enought that Firefox
is launched and the whole system hard freezes. There's no FF wind
I don't know if it's relevant but Gutsy on my laptop is freezing left
and right. Everything was fine with Feisty. Other bug reports I filed
about freeze issues are #179813 and #179817.

Good point Matt, thanks! Indeed, it was _some_ extension or skin (not a plugin)
that was causing system freezes. I just moved bookmarks from the old .mozilla
directory to a new one and am happy. If you want me to pursue the problem
further please shout :)

During the upgrade process (update-manager -d) my network connection
died and instead of the regular contents some 'helpful' HTML page from
the wireless router ended up being written there. When I reconnected and
restarted update-manager it
