files have changed between gutsy and hardy.

Thanks for your bug report. Your debdiff doesn't work as expected as
/var/run is a tmpfs directory and is recreated every time the system is
booted.
Moreover, according the init script /etc/init.d/slapd, the symlink is
there to maintain backward compatibility with openldap 2.1 client
libraries:

Thanks for posting your slapd.conf. The configuration file is not valid,
thus slapd wasn't functional before the upgrade. I'd expect the upgrade
to fail on a non-working configuration as this highlights a problem with
the system.

On hardy, mysql is protected by an apparmor profile that doesn't allow
mysqld to read files in /home/mysql/mysql/. Check in /var/log/messages
to see if there apparmor messages.
