This has been fixed in hwinfo_13.3-1 in Debian bug #381387.
It would be nice to have that in Edgy.

When I try to control the volume by using the gnome-volume-control
applet nothing happens. The volume does not change. This happened in
Dapper aswell it happens in Edgy.
