happens less often then with version 9.4.2
If I install version 9.4.1 the problem can be "solved" be stopping and starting
the browser again, it cleans up the defunct acroread process.

I have some new information see attachment for logging.
It appears traffic gets routed outside and recieves a invalid responce,
version 1.5.6-2ubuntu2 handles this well, version 1.5.6-2ubuntu2.3 breaks.
If I block traffic to 169.254.169.254 with ip tables facter works again.

If I install a maverick 2.6.38 kernel the problem is "solved" system is
still use able and no more massive cifs errors, but when I use a 2.6.35
kernel from lucid the problem still exists.

I am mounting the home directory of a user with mount.cifs if a packets gets
lost while logged in the cifs error appears and the machine gets unuseable.
If I mount the home directory with libpam-mount everything goes fine.

I tested the suggestion by Mantas Kriaučiūnas, but that does not solve the
problem.
The only way to print pdf files is to remove the ttf-mscorefonts-installer and
ttf-microsoft-corefonts, but thats more a work-around and not a real fix.

After some more testing 2.6.38 doesn't fix the problem, it delays the
problem. If a short network outage occurs everything goes well, if the
network outage takes longer then 5min it still fails with the same cifs
126 error.

Im comparing to a Debian lenny box and a Ubuntu Jaunty machine and I noticed
that im missing mime.convs and mime.types in /etc/cups/ directory.
If a add the files which van be found it /usr/share/cups/mime/ and adjust the
postscript line in mime.convs
