I have the same problem after a dist-upgrade on Ubuntu 18.04 server. All
my bridges are not found anymore. There was an update from .5-9ubuntu2
to 1.5-15ubuntu1, however downgrading does NOT fix the problem. Manually
setting the bridges works, but this is not a permanent solution.

It happened when upgrading from ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10
On 17.04 everything worked as expected on battery.
Steps that I tried as you suggested:
* I booted into 4.10 kernel and with battery power the problem still happens
* I booted into 4.15 kernel downloaded from the ubuntu mainline repo and
I do not remember for sure but I guess it was the last kernel provided
with ubuntu 17.04. I upgraded 17.04 to keep in sync with security
updates. My guess is that it's the 4.10 "series"

disabling the Alt+F10 shortcut in ccsm > Ubuntu Unity Plugin > Behavior,
I continue to get the "menu popup" behavior instead of a maximized
window.
I can successfully change the shortcut key to something else (e.g.,
Super+Up),
