FYI, It happened to me on the first reboot, after upgrading from Jaunty
to the beta. I wasn't running anything yet... Perhaps the first check
done by the automatic update daemon?

Likewise, after upgrading to the 9.10 beta, now I cannot play audio or
video due to these broken dependencies, they cannot be repaired via the
standard procedures. I have disabled the PPA's, tried fixing broken
dependencies in Synaptic, and by command line... WOW... Guess that's
what you get for us
I apologize for the double post, but I'm on to something... Open
Synaptic and install libavcodec52, let it uninstall what it wants to,
pay attention to what it uninstalled, and reinstall those packages after
it finishes. Now on to my unrelated audio issue...

Likewise, but as we've been told, using the proprietary ATI Catalyst 9.8
for Linux drivers we are left with no support, I fortunately have decent
performance with my HD 4650 (rv730). It is set to 1920 x 1080 on both of
my screens (24" and 52" Samsung flat panels).

Confirmed: "sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau", then "sudo
update-manager -c -d" will fix you up!
Completing upgrade as we speak, now to recompile my wireless driver and
(fingers crossed) all is well!
