I guess the problem is that OpenSC do not find the libpcsclite.so.1 library.
The problem is not with the card but with the way OpenSC uses the PC/SC library.
OpenSC uses dlopen() to load the library. Maybe dlopen() should be
modified to support Multi Arch. Or the problem is elsewhere.

But in the latest screenshot your system is configured for Natty _only_ (11.04).

Maybe you should consider using version 1.7.0-2. This version now uses
libudev instead of libhal. So the only remaining difference is the more
of the libpcsclite.so.1 library from /usr/lib to /lib
Also note that wpasupplicant in Debian experimental now loads
libpcsclite.so.1 dynamically when neede

The group I plan to use will be named "pcscd" instead of "scard" and is
designed to be used by the pcscd process only and not by a normal user.
GnuPG implements its own and direct CCID driver. I think this is an
error. GnuPG can also use the PC/SC API as any other (normal) smart card
application.
Interesting patch. But I (as upstream maintainer) can't apply it before
I understand the problem.
If you can write a small sample to reproduce the problem without using a
proprietary software I will have a look.
If it is not possible I have some questions:
- does the FIFO the code is trying to op
The latest pcsc-lite 1.6.x do not use a fifo anymore. So the patch would
only be for the 1.5.x branch.
If I can't reproduce/understand the bug myself I will not apply the patch, even
if it works for you.
