Here's the source code of the applet that caused it: http://pastebin.ca/1279601
I commented out the workaround I created, see comment on line 340.
That's not the exact code that caused the problem as I continued to work
on it, but it should cause the same problem. I can't test it though, as

Looks like I have had to remove the virtual hard disk to make space for
the actual upgrade, so I cannot get a screenshot.
Anyway, it is one of those Ubuntu messages you get in the top right
corner of your screen*, the ones that should turn transparent, almost
invisible when you move your mouse on
I have the same problem with the same kernel, I have splash disabled on
boot and it just stays at "resuming", and after waiting for 20 minutes
it still hasn't done anything.

I have a similar problem when trying to resume from hibernate. It worked
in the last kernel, but with the -17 one it doesn't work. I noticed that
after resuming, ctrl+alt+f1 gets me to login, but trying to get to X
doesn't work and freezes the system.

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Gutsy#disablectrlaltconsole does that
too.
I'm running 32 bit version of Ubuntu 8.04, upgraded from 7.10. For some
reason it doesn't happen if I use firefox 2 instead of the 3 beta, so
I'm using that as my main web browser while waiting for a bug fix.

Binary package hint: gimp
On Ubuntu 9.04 Beta (running on VirtualBox running on 8.10) I cannot get
the GIMP main window (title of which GNU Image Manipulation Program) to
be shown on top of the other windows. When I select it, it'll still be

It doesn't do that on 8.10, even though both window options are set to
Utility window by default, so is it a problem with the window manager
instead of Gimp? At least utility windows being hidden behind others
sounds strange to me.
