unity --reset
It worked! Running that command WITH sudo worked for a session, but
running it WITHOUT sudo was the persisted fix (one that survives
logging-out/rebooting).
Perhaps the developers over the "apt-get dist-upgrade" should automate

Here's a screen-shot of the issue where the typical menu cannot be shown in the
title-bar, because gedit is currently utilizing the title bar itself at the
application-level (which is overriding the "desktop-environment-level):

Temporarily, I'm using pluma instead of gedit as a work-around for the
menu-not-displaying-in-title-bar-issue:
sudo apt-get install pluma
Pluma seems to be some previous fork of gedit, and looks like gedit did about
two versions ago. Here's a screen shot of pluma, where you can see the correct

Here's a work-around until this package gets upgraded in the main
repository. Run this as a one line command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa ; sudo apt-get update && sudo
apt-get install shutter

In autokey-gtk, any time I have the pi symbol in one of my key-phases,
later when I try to auto-key the phrase it changes the pi symbol (π) to
Ā (an A with a dash above it).

One thing I'd like to mention. I login as soon as Ubuntu will allow it.
The login screen pops up and then goes away briefly. During that going-
