I think I understood what is happening:
As I have two monitors, gksu is fading both of them. So there is a
superposition of two semitransparent rectangles, one for the big screen and one
for the small. The darker area is due to this superposition.

It's quick if I use cp command or other filesystems.

Thanks for the reply mike, I upgraded after getting rid of nvidia-glx-
new so I never used update-manager -d. Instead, I ran
sudo mv /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.old
sudo envy --uninstall-all
And then I did do-release-upgrade and it worked.

I had similar problem and made it work with this command:
VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force vmware-server-console
Or you may add "VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force" at the beginning of file

If python-dcop makes a call when dcopserver is not start, it will no
longer make any method calls after starting dcopserver.
Here is an example. I was using python and dcop to get the playlist of
amarok.
(At first amarok and dcopserver was not running.)

I thought HeresJohnny was experiencing crashes with OO.o+SCIM+fglrx back on
early Apr.
