In Ubuntu 8.04 (and Xubuntu 7.10), when I try to resume from Hibernate,
it seems like it is loading. I waited until the hard disk stopped
getting accessed, but the screen was still blank. I typed my password,

denied, even when using sudo.

Update: Hibernation now refuses to hibernate. The computer stays on and
appears with a password prompt to unlock the screen. I am not using a
Wubi installation.

Wubi supports suspend. Have you tried manually disabling the "Suspend on
lid close"?

I started noticing that my laptop was getting hot. So I searched around
on the Forums and found i8kutils. I installed the latest version, 1.27,
via apt-get. I then type [i8kfan 1 1] (the command for turning both fans
on slow mode). But this error
I also can confirm this bug. I am using a Dell Inspiron 8100 with the
the latest BIOS and Hardy with the 2.6.24-18 kernel. i8kfan won't let me
read the RPM values or control the fans. See bug #238880.
