I believe the problem was tied to the sound card. After the reinstall
of the system, I still had the same problems. I pulled the sound card
and went back to the onboard audio. This took care of the problems.

Thanks Erik... those other bugs gave a bit more insight on where to look
into possible problems. However, this still has not fixed the issue I'm
having. Tomorrow I'm going to reinstall from scratch and see if I can
track down what I did wrong.
On a side note, I have been able to get pulseaudio w

That would fix the ultimate issue I am having. I think it would be nice
to have the option to drag/drop these panels though. The way I set my
system up is with multiple displays and two panels each covering the top
of the display. That way I have two separate window lists, one for each
monitor.
I thought that's what the "Allow panel to be moved/Lock the placement of
the panel" options were for. I can't find the changelog but I was able
to figure out the key qualifier. It feels like the feature is a little
more hidden. There's no information about the key qualifier in the

The option was in a previous version of Ubuntu. I know this option is
there in 8.10 as that is what I use on my laptop.

I received the same error using xinerama. The bug I believe is valid.
If compiz or beryl is enabled, the option to use xinerama should be
greyed out and forced to use seperate X sessions or suggest twinview.
This is one of the struggles I have every time I set up Ubuntu.

I can guarantee it's not graphics card specific. The screenshot I
