As noted by Andy, the fix for "Dell Studio 155x hangs on resume" was
(again) not included in the official kernel just released. The reason
is because the last three kernel releases have been security-fix-only
releases (rush jobs) and have not included any of the growing list of
patches queued up f

This particular "hang on resume" fix relates only to a specific problem
relating to the SCI_EN bit which seems to be peculiar to Intel Core i3,
Core i5, and Core i7 CPU's (such as the Dell Studio 155x line). Systems

Notes: On unplugging the A/C ...
1. the system seems to be executing the "When the lid is closed"
behavior (Power Management prefs -> On Battery Power) even though the
lid is open. Changing that option to "Blank Screen" changes the
behavior and makes the following acpi_listen testing feasible:
The brightness keys (and other dysfunctional special keys) do generate
"IO-APIC-fasteoi acpi" interrupts per /proc/interrupts, but no reaction
from acpi_listen or /lib/udev/keymap.
The underlying ACPI brightness functionality works fine
(/proc/acpi/fideo/OVGA/DD02/brightness).

For some audio devices (soundcards) the 'cwlib' library generates
truncated Morse code elements (dah's and dit's) due to audio buffer
underruns.
'cwlib' works by assuming that it will be able to store at least one
second of audio in the audio card
Running with the environment variable CWLIB_DEBUG=0xFFFE makes cwlib
emit interesting debug info. These two lines hint at the problem:
cwlib tries to set the fragment size to 2^7 == 128, but on one soundcard
with the problem, I get:

in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic but I was unable to reproduce the problem (nice

'sox' since it can use sox internally (though sox is not required for
normal use of multimon).
