I thought it was fixed. Everything seems to be working with authentication.
However, I cannot get yppasswd working on server. I am upgrading the server
this summer (I am a teacher) and will report back in September if it still does
not work.

I have returned to school and allowed kubuntu go through all the updates
(server and client) and still no luck. I checked to see if /etc/group
and passwd had the necessary +:::'s in them and they do and the number
of colons is correct. I can still ypcat passwd and see the users on the
server, but
As I think about it, I did not add the +:::'s to the /etc/shadow. I will try
that tomorrow. I really do not want to back track to edgy if at all possible.

I am unable to produce any output at the moment. My classroom is now put away
for the summer and I will not return until September.

FYI, in my experience, having the +:: in /etc/passwd breaks the user
management module. When it is there, user management will not load. Tells me
error about orphaned module (or something like that). So, I remove it when I
need to modify a user and replace it when done.

Either something got fixed or I did something to fix it, but I have nis
working now. I don't think it was something I did as I am no linux
guru.
AFAIC, this bug can be considered fixed.

Thanks for everything.

NIS is broken since recent feisty updates
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bug
I've tried searching for more info on this issue, but no luck. In the
mean time, I have set up a trial with 6.10 (a nis server and client) and
the same configuration works with 6.10.
Bug # 90693 seemed like it might be applicable, but adding the -no-dbus
arg to YPBINDARGS did not solve my problem
Problem is, I need them for NIS. Not sure what to do at this
point.
Let me know if I can be of assistance.

I have installed Lucid successfully so I guess it is no longer an issue.
