Actual problem here is indeed terminal settings. Blue on black is almost
always plenty readable when running on physical console.
Please note this palette has only 16 colors so don't try to get too
clever.
The terminal program needs to adjust the palette to something more
readable.

Unfortunately this apport might not be useful. Between filing this and
now the nouveau driver actually started behaving itself and the Xorg
vesa driver got broken in more lucid updates.
Previoiusly it was grabbing fbcon w/ vesa which is unusable on this
system (funny that the Xorg vesa worked).

Still not solved, huh? I've had this laptop for almost a year now,
running the vesa driver on Gentoo. It's a shame, but I think I'll just
have to get a new laptop as this problem has no hope of ever being
solved in the foreseeable future.

No audio comes out of the right speaker on the laptop. When playing a
test video such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ the
right-channel audio is never heard (i.e., it does not get converted into
mono and played through the left speaker).

from comment #24 but the problem is still the same (Bluetooth: Loading

I got it working with the patch comment #23 at some point, but like 90%
of the time it doesn't work. And I can't reproduced why, just some
rebooting, using windows, hard power off etc. and 1 of 10 times
bluetooth works. A linux-next test kernel would be great.

Yes, it does occur on trusty too. Kernel version linux-image
(3.12.0.2.4). Ubuntu splash screen freezes on shutdown with one dot
orange four dots withe. Fan at full speed.
