Unfortunately this apport might not be useful. Between filing this and now the nouveau driver actually started behaving itself and the Xorg vesa driver got broken in more lucid updates. Previoiusly it was grabbing fbcon w/ vesa which is unusable on this system (funny that the Xorg vesa worked). -
