Public bug reported:
After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 ld fails to link some applications:
/usr/bin/ld: internal error in sized_finalize_symbol, at
../../gold/symtab.cc:2663
Workaround: change ld to point to ld.bfd
** Affects: binutils (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
Yes, I know the bug report is very incomplete. The problem is that I don't own
the source code beeing compiled/linked.
I have not managed to create a reproducer.
Does the error message itself give any clues of whats wrong " internal
error in sized_finalize_symbol" ?
Maybe you could guide me lo
..and some more info about the symbol and it's context:
(gdb) print *sym->u_.from_object.object
$9 = (gold::Sized_dynobj<64, false>) {
= {
= {
_vptr.Object = 0x62d810,
name_ = "//lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0",
input_file_ = 0x1f6574f0,
offset_ = 0,
I found the error. The option --dynamic-list= was used and the
dynamic list file contained three symbols that should not be there I
guess:
__cxa_finalize;
__gmon_start__;
_Jv_RegisterClasses;
It works fine after removing these three symbols from the file.
Status: Solved
Public bug reported:
The problem is that do-release-upgrade does not give any information
about what is wrong.
I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.2 and then directly to 15.04. The last
upgrade failed for unknown reason.
