Installed Edgy RC1 as a VM in VMware - host OS is Windows 2000. Mouse
is a Microsoft "Wheel Mouse Optical". Scroll wheel doesn't scroll - not
in Nautilus, not in Firefox, not in OpenOffice. System does detect
wheel mouse *button*, but does not
As I say in the text, this isn't limited to Firefox, but the bug
reporting system seemed to require I pick one package, and that's the
one it's most bothersome in. Maybe I should have looked for a mouse
driver package - sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

This screen shot shows just what I am talking about. The fonts in
Firefox are crisp and clear. In OpenOffice they are blocky and almost
illegible. This has always been an issue in Edgy, it is not an issue in
Dapper.

Yes the backport was rejected. I found OOo 2.1 in the .deb format here:

I apologize for not updating my comment sooner. My issue turned out to
be a misconfiguration in my firewall. I suspect that others who are
experiencing this issue may also have firewall misconfigurations or
other network connectivity issues external to the core ubuntu install.
