For me at least, this problem is not limited to just Firefox or
Thunderbird. Seemingly any program that has a window and a right-click
menu or drop down menu is affected. I've tested it with Amarok, Natilus,

Though the program was slow to respond in any folder, it behaved in the
same way as you describe in my photo folders.
I should report that the problem seems to have rectified itself as
nautilus seems to functioning correctly for me now. At first, nautilus
was having trouble every time I opened it
I'm seeing this as well. I just got to 13.04 and tried to check it out.
I'm not sure if it worked while I was on 12.10 as never tried it there.
Nothing of mine comes up for Music, few results appear for both pictures
and videos that make it apparant that it doesn't know my library. I keep
my music/
