But on the other hand after apt-get update and apt-get upgrade I can't get
the freeze to reproduce.

I updated to linux 2.6.38-5 via update Manager (2/23/2011) and the
problem still persists. Trying various leads from internet, I exectued
"startx" from recovery mode login prompt and received "FATAL: Module
NVIDIA not found, (EE): NVIDIA: Failed to load the Nvidia kernel
module." I have no idea whe
I downloaded and installed latest NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA-Linux-
x86_64-260.19.36.run) from www.nvidia.com. An /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
was created that references "nvidia drivcers", and I am able to boot
into linux kernel 2.6.38-5. I wish I understood what is going on here.

I just tried it with Arch but I couldn't figure out how to get past the
initial setup screen. The bug doesn't exist on that initial terminal
screen in set-up. That prompted me to try typing on that temporary CLI
login that shows up when starting Mint from a full power off

I am trying to install 64-bit Intrepid on a Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H with an
Athlon X2 and 2 GB of memory. After the install splash screen the
system reboots. It does not report any messages.

No, I tried using mem=2048m and it did not make a difference. I also
tried Intrepid-32 bit and Hardy-64 bit versions with the same results.
Removing "quiet" from the boot parameters I see that "Mounting Root File
System" never says "ok" before it reboots.

Not that I'm aware of. I use Hardy at the moment, and activating the
drivers with the default ones found on the repos will be older than the
ones downloaded by the ENVY application created by Alberto Milone. It
even chooses from 3 different drivers automatically depending on your
Nvidia card. To ge
ok, still you could also do it in a shell winth envy -t
that would be the "textual mode"
or like a said if you upgrade your kernel and gdm fails you just login
in text mode and run it.
good it worked out, since Hardy we are all using the new xorg.conf, it
stays very simple.

Can anybody comment on the minimum Python dependency of this patch? The
README claims Python >= 2.3, so I'd like to make sure it's still
