I have a similar issue. It started shortly after I updated to Intrepid.
This actually affects all sound played by the system not just videos. I have
the same problem when I play mp3
Strangely the videos in VLC is not affected but the sound is.

The behaviour of the network manager seems to have changed sinced my
last comment. Now I actually see the connection dropping and network
manager reconnecting. Previously, the wireless connection would drop but
network manager would tell me that I was still connected.

same issue. The only difference is that WICD tells me that I am
disconnected when my connection drops. Network manager on the other hand
