Don´t if this information helps but I made partition (with GParted) manually
when installation crashed.
I tried few times (different partitions) and it crashed everytime. When I used
automatic partitioning it pass without any problems.

are disabled!!)

Yes, naturally.
S/PDIF output is off, but it's unchangeable (like all options concerning
S/PDIF).

Ah...yes. That did the trick.
Why these are mute by default? Graphical mixer doesn't have any switch for this.

Happened also to me with Maverick beta release and Nvidia drivers.
1) Open Additional driver app
2) Press to activate driver
3) Admin password is queried -> press cancel
4) Window stopped responding
Couldn't reproduce.
