I can reproduce this by simply touching the file '/forcefsck' and
rebooting.
Killing either 'plymouth quit' or 'plymouth --mode=boot --attach-to-
session' shows gdm again, all though kill 'plymouth --mode=boot
--attach-to-session' spams the terminal with the following message:
'mountall: Plymouth
