Well, I'd say that the erros don't have anything to do with synaptics.
I'd say that the problem is the default configuration, but I don't know
how or where to change that (maybe in the fdi file?).

I have just upgraded to feisty using update-manager. As of linux-
image-2.6.20-4, all ide disks were renamed from hda* to sda* but the
automatically generated menu.lst part continues to use root=/dev/hda2,
so I cannot boot without changing it manually at system start up.

I had the same issue and the problem was that menu.lst had
root=/dev/hda2 instead of /dev/sda2. I reported this bug but I cannot
find it anymore. I may have not completed the process.

I investingated a bit and it seems that update-manager takes the kernel
parameters from fstab (where I have the correct UUIDs) unless kopt
options are present in grub configuration's file. And my menu.lst had
these two lines:
# kopt=root=UUID=...
# kopt_2_6=root=/dev/hda2
So the last line was use

I tried changing all of LANG, LANGUAGE and LC_ALL to en_US.UTF-8 and C
and in every case I get the following message:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ LANG=C
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ lsb_release
No LSB modules are available.
It only crashes when any of those variables are set to "" or my current
locale: gl_ES
After some experiments I conclude that apt-cache policy output gets
corrupted when appending .UTF-8 to the LANG variable.
Without this, output has priority alone, but when appended, priority is
surrounded with parenthesis as seen in the file attached in the last
post.
