Experienced the same problem and trials as the original poster. I didn't
know about the --no-migration-assistant option, so i just ran on a
console "grub-install --root-directory=/target/ /dev/sda" and will now
reboot (i'm writing this while still on the live cd).

Just to note, IIRC, this bug affects me since Karmic, when g-v-c had its
gui changed to the current one.

Thanks for the ampersand tip :)
Without the "&" it effectively locks the terminal (not just for you, heh), I
just used two terminals but the ampersand is a "cleaner" way to do it.
I think this is what called "community collaboration", really enjoying
it :D

@david.hilton.p I've made a patch for the gconf integration backend, so
that it honours the resize_with_right_button gconf key. This solves some
aspects of this bug. Feel free to check it out and give feedback - if it

In my case, opening alsamixer and hitting F4 shows me the recording
controls, one of which lets me choose between input sources, using the
up and down arrow keys.
To open just type "alsamixer" into a console, without the quotes. Then
navigate with arro
Same problem here, HP Pavillion tx1000, upgraded to Lucid from Karmic.
When I turn on the machine it starts fine, but if I disable the touchpad
with the hardware button, and then re-enable it again, it won't come
back.
I managed to make it work again with workaround #42 , great, thanks!
Why was
I'm hitting this bug too, and so far working around it by going to Edit
connections -> Edit the network you want to connect to -> manually input
the WPA2 password in the Wi-Fi Security tab -> Save, then it connects
without problems.
