I installed 10.04 and immediately upgraded to the latest linux-headers.
When i attached my Samsung 2333sw monitor.
I called Canonical support and was advised to chang this line in
/etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to

BTW, I also tried changing /etc/default/grub to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.modeset=0"
(as well as modeset = 1). These were recommended by Canonical support. They
didn't work either.

Here is some more information. I checked the values below with values of
both 0 and 1 for "radeon.new_pll" and "radeon.modeset=1":
1920x1080 (16:9): Wavy
1600x1200 (4:3): No Video, monitor displays message "Not Optimum Mode" shows
up, as described earlier.
1680x1050 (16:10): No Video
1440x900 (16
I needed the machine working, so unfortunately I installed 10.10. I can
confirm that by upgrading, the monitor works (with the KVM). If you'd
still like me to run anything to gather data, just let me know.

Hi - just wanted to check back on this issue. Any further thoughts? I
need this monitor for my work, so it's quite difficult to not be able to
use it. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
I am also able to reproduce the error on another system I have--a
Fujitsu Lifebook. I can upload logs if that
