Just did another Full Drive Iso Test installation that crashed with the
20120411.1 current daily spin of Lubuntu 12.04 desktop amd64. Bug is still
present.
Manual Installation Test (Do Something Else) installed clean
Auto resize (Along Side) installed cleanly
LiveCD sessions tested okay as well
I typically use a live USB with persistence then I can easily get my wifi
working before doing the install.
I do have some CDs laying around and I could try them and a non-persistent
USB just to check those
options against the Bug. Good ideas thanks.

No Brian there was not a Windows partition at all on the HDD. It is a
testing HDD that I use only when iso-testing. I even removed all
partitions and had nothing but free unallocated space and tried a full
drive install that failed in the migration of documents and settings.

understand the powerpc yaboot command. It ended in the same results "Fixing

I also tried the Lubuntu alternate powerpc yesterday 20121014 and it
failed as well.. It was noted on qa-tracker. I will add to this bug the
reference to the kernel that I can see after a reboot. Not on my G4 but
this is what I saw early in the scroll 'Oops: Kernel access of bad area,

way to get the logs "cleanly". I can not log into a terminal and apport
is installed anyway (so I would have to get that working too). Now with
that being said I can get to a failed partition from a live USB or
working partit

Then the more permanent removal of module and commenting out sound
modules in blacklist.local.conf.

Yes ojordan, I can get booted up with the combination of
snd-powermac.blacklist=yes
and radeonfb command too.. Not sure why I have to add the radeonfb video
command.
Anyway, I got the install to boot into a somewhat workable session (obviously
no sound)
but that is another issue.

Testing Beta 2 Lubuntu Desktop amd64 20120925 I can confirm the issue still
exists
and the best work around is removal of splash from the kernel mode line..
Nomodeset generally works but leaves the live session in low graphics. Removal
of "splash"
maintains proper grahics in the live session.
Walter (wxl23) I think your issue is powerpc specific. If you look back
on the reporters on this particular bug we were doing desktop amd64
installs on either Ubuntu or Lubuntu. Like philinux, I also ran the
20121001 amd64 Desktop Lubuntu and Ubuntu last night and both the live
sessions were fine
Thanks for making me think here wxl. The Beta2 came out on 20120926 and
the fix here arrived 20120928. By the way i did send cavsfan a
notification to try the current live daily build and post back if it
works.

Okay I have the ATI Radeon RV250 on this PowerBook G4.
I can get to a clean live session with the following kernel command line
live video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60
I can then make a clean install. but have no obvious graphics module in
lsmod.
sudo modprobe radeondoes get the module running a
Confirmed on Lubuntu quantal amd64 20120928 resolves my issues as well.
The persistent USB I am using boots to a clean Live session with no
kernel mode changes required.

Note: The Lubuntu Quantal amd64.iso dated 20120531 installed fine. The time
zone selection
did complete on the second attempt, but did show the alert box. I will mark
this bug
invalid in a few days since it was an install on a current daily build 20120530
iso.

As expected the i386 iso had the same issue testing 20120601 Lubuntu
quantal i386 iso.
