Public bug reported:
I've created a VPN connection in the KDE network manager plasmoid that
uses "Connection Type" set to "X.509 With password". When it tries to
connect, it fails with "VPN connection 'Maxwell' (IP Config Get) timeout
exceeded." and "ERROR: could not read Private Key

I can confirm this with Intel 3945ABG in Dell notebook connecting to
FreeBSD 7.1 router using WPA2/AES. Works fine with Kubuntu Jaunty Beta
(kernel 2.6.28-11 #37). Doesn't work with Jaunty RC (kernel 2.6.28-11

Yeah, I've got this too on a fresh install of Jaunty. I kill the kded4
process without any obvious adverse effects and everything seems ok. It
happens again every time I reboot.

Binary package hint: kde4libs
I've done a fresh install of Kubuntu Jaunty on a Dell Inspiron 6400
notebook. I then added kpat (KDE patience card games) via KPackageKit. I
start kpat and it asks for the game type (shows the 4 x 3 grid of the

I can confirm this on a fresh install of Kubuntu Jaunty. Only I don't
even get the blank window - it just hangs immediately after I press the
"New" button. I have to kill it using "kill -9" to get it to exit.
Running from the command line gives:
g...@chief% sudo kppp
Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-gfm"
I was wrong above. The problem happens whenever it deals a new hand -
not just the first time on starting the program.

It sounds very much like there are two bugs here. The first is the KDE
network manager bug that volenin describes above that is fixed by
installing linux-backports-modules-jaunty. The second seems to be
hardware specific as described in Javier's last couple of messages.

Sorry, it seems this was my mistake. Please close this as "not a bug".
For the benefit of anybody who makes the same mistake, it appears that
it happens if there are files in /var/tmp/kdecache- that are
not owned by . I suggest removing this directory and letting
it be recreated.

It happens for me every time. I kill kde4d and restart it and everything
seems to run correctly.
I can't see why this has been importance of Low. It's going to give any
newbie a very bad Kubuntu experience.

Yep. Doesn't work on the release of Kubuntu Jaunty live CDROM either.
I'll install over the weekend and see if I can find the problem.
