i found the reason of this crash, for me it's cause from a too small partition
/boot
then i try :
move /boot partition to / from livecd with cp -pr command and reconfigure fstab
and grub or lilo

in DpkgTerminalLog.txt :
gzip: stdout: No space left on device
then the / or /boot partition is full, isn't it ?

i'm using ubuntu 8.10 without compiz and having the a problem like that :
if i open image with gimp from nautilus and if gimp is already open the new
image is open in background
similar thing with gedit / geany , ...
with compiz running the tip solve the problem, but without the problem
still he
The focus is really particular for me because it 's the opposate case
disappoint me !
open gimp with a image, take nautilus open image with gimp and ... gimp
stay background with the new image open, similar thing with gedit /
geany and it's not usuable

This valgrind is from live cd then no up to date system.
For my system i force update to 0.9 with a .deb and haven't any more
this trouble

step to reproduce :
open brasero
chose audio project
sometimes :
after search crash (close no warning)
or
click on a dir then crash (close no warning)
